Welcome, Home … almost!

Well, we had a bit of change in plans, and about $100,000 savings this weekend. We had full intentions and a check in hand to purchase a townhouse condo in Wailuku as soon as the phase opened up. The sales office called me on Tuesday of this past week to let me know that there were already campers outside the office and that the opening of the phase would be, ‘very soon’. I tried to explain to her that in order to purchase a home I must work, my husband must work, and that our kids are not old enough to camp for our home. This process of secrecy of when the exact date the phase will open, the camping of people who want to buy, the increase in sales prices that are not disclosed to the buyer until the phase opens are all part of some equitability process. A process that has left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and a bit of hostility towards the process. Really it is a stupid process, not equitable for someone with a full-time career, a family, much less a chronic disease that seriously cannot camp in front of a sales office for 5+days.  As Saturday rolled around, the date which I thought for sure they would open up the phase, and people were still camping out, Tyrel and I decided to take a look at some other options.

Well, that “taking a look” at other options ended with a meeting with the sales representative and signing of our sales contract for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom new construction condo in North Kihei. The models for these homes will open in a couple weeks, and we have 30 days to change our mind and get our down payment back. I am hoping when we walk into the model home we fall in love. It will be a little smaller than the other ones we were going for originally, but still bigger than where we are staying now.

However, the cost savings, and the fact that we were able to pick our unit, and location on the spot, pay a little down, and know that in 8-10 months we will be able to move into our brand new condo made the process a little easier. Oh and that $100,000+ that we are saving was a nice reprieve from the anxiety of not knowing the sales price of the other condos or if we would even get into this sales phase anyway.  Something always brings us back to Kihei anyway. The beaches are close, we can even walk to the beach from our new condo once it is done. They are building pocket parks, a recreation center, dog parks, and larger parks within the community we are buying in. They are expecting the prices to continue to rise, so we have locked our price, and don’t have to worry about the price going up. Although in the long run that just helps us out in the future … more equity can’t be a bad thing! Our condo will be on the back of one of the buildings and will be facing the Waiakoa Gulch, and farm land. So our windows will have a nice view of Kiawe trees, farm, and maybe Haleakala.

Our condo will be on the back of one of the buildings and will be facing the Gulch, and farm land. So our windows will have a nice view of Kiawe trees, farm, and maybe Haleakala. This is better than the other condos because although many of the condos had ocean and views of the West Maui Mountains, you could also see directly into your neighbor’s bedroom and backyard. And because of the selection process, you didn’t know until the home was built what type of view you had, or didn’t have.

So keep your fingers crossed, send positive vibes that when we see it in person it is all that we think it will be.

Of course, we have the floor plans, and have seen the virtual walk through, and investigated the properties, we just have to make sure. I want it to be the place, and then this process is over and we can move forward with the end date in mind! If anything it is an awesome investment and we can always sell it or upgrade and remodel in the future once the boys have moved out. Either way, we will have an awesome condo for our family, a little-fenced yard space, minutes from the beautiful Maui beaches!
